Playing the game of table tennis can be compared to riding a bike. Anyone can watch how others do it and more or less understand how the game is played. But for those who want to have better skills, this is the time that table tennis coaching is necessary.

The person can check out the youth center or ask someone in school how to play the game. There is a lot to learn from holding the grip to the various poses that are done during offense and defense.

If the school does not have a team, maybe those who are members of a sports club can learn there. A small group of people can form a team that will later compete in other tournaments.

Most sports facilities will have the table and the net. The only thing that player needs to have is a paddle. The one in charge of training the people will usually start with drills. This will increases the chances of making contact with the ball using either the forehand or the backhand.

The beginner will not be rushed in learning how to play the game. There are those who need more time to practice before going any further while those who learn fast may move on to other techniques.

From drills, the player will finally get to spar with someone else. The opponent could also be a beginner or someone with more experience. The coach will be there the entire time to keep score and also point out errors that should be avoided.

When the coach feels that the player is ready, this is the time that the person will get to compete in a tournament. A lot of people get nervous the first time, which is perfectly normal. The event is like a graduation where the a beginner becomes a rookie.

The coach who is sitting in the sidelines will be giving advice during the course of the match. The player should listen carefully and follow the instructions because the instructor may have seen a weak point in the opponent that should be taken advantage of.

In the end, the outcome of the match will really depend on the player. The rookie may win because of pure luck or exceptional skill. This could also go the other way but the experience is worth remembering in order to become better in the next tournament.

The lessons given by the coach even before the competition are not enough to make the person a better player. This means there is still so much to learn and the individual should be open to the other things that can be taught.

Some coaches will show video clips of other players and even encourage the rookie to watch actual games if there any in town or on television. These individuals did not become one of the best in the country or the world overnight so those who dream of making it should practice and learn just as hard as these people did.

There is more to table tennis than just hitting the ball with the paddle. There is hand to eye coordination, speed and technique. The top ranked in the world need to stay in shape while a beginner needs to learn everything there is to know that can only be achieved with someone acting as a coach.

You have been playing tennis on and off over the years and have finally decided to get more serious about the game. You figure you can kill two birds with one stone by getting your exercise while doing something you like. Now, you set off to get yourself ready to play.

As always, you want to look your best, after all, you have always been a great dresser. The decision now is ‘what should I wear when playing tennis?’ Do I need special outfits similar to what pros like the Williams sisters wear or can I just wear casual clothing? Bottom line is that the decision is yours to make.

You can purchase a complete outfit made by any major manufacturer of sporting goods. These include Nike, Adidas, Prince, Wilson, Head, Babolat, Balle de Match, and there still many more out there selling good products.

If you do not want to invest in the special clothes, think comfortable. Your outfit should be loose and flowing as you will be running back and forth, jumping up and down and twisting in every direction as you try to hit the ball. Maybe you will want to just wear the clothes you already have in your closet or to purchase ones-either works as long as you can move freely around the court.

If you join a group or a club and play as a team together, you may need to purchase a team uniform.

Your group will select an outfit that may include a top, shorts, socks and jacket or a special short dress with socks and a jacket-monograms are also available and you can even add the team’s name to the back of the outfit.

If you have joined a tennis club, you may want to stop by periodically to see what other people are wearing. I am not saying that you should try to ‘keep up with the Jones’ here, but there may be an ‘unspoken’ dress code for players. You should be able to figure that out without embarrassing yourself by showing up inappropriately dressed.

Take time to go out and shop around for your outfit. If you do not have a lot of spare time or you hate to think about spending time at the mall on your day off, look on the internet. Just type in ‘tennis clothing’ and you will be amazed at the number of different web sites that will be listed.

Go through a few of these sites to get an idea of what you want-this is probably the quickest and easiest way to see literally hundreds of different options in just a few minutes. You can even order your outfit without every leaving your home-it can even be delivered directly to your door for you to wear.

Find the outfit you like and that you are comfortable in. Play tennis with your friends, make new acquaintances, schmooze with potential clients, and just enjoy yourself. You are out with people and getting exercise and you look and feel great.

If you are in the market to buy a new tennis racquet, it is no longer as simple as choosing a brand name and a look you like. You need to understand the type of racquet you need, the technology that will best improve your game and you should have a comprehensive understanding of the parts of a tennis racquet and what they mean to overall performance on the tennis court. For instance, you should understand features like:

-Racquet Weight

-Balance

-Head size

-String Pattern

In this article, we will discuss these features and others that impact you tennis racquet selection. We’ll also talk about a few types of tennis rackets including Control Racquets, “Tweener” Racquets and Power Racquets and which are appropriate for what level of player.

We’ll begin with tennis racquet head size. There are three main options in Head Size which include:

-Mid-Size Head: 90-95 square inches

-Mid-Plus Head : 95-105 square inches

-Oversize Head : 105 square inches and up

The head size is a very noticeable characteristic of a website and has a huge impact on tennis racquet behavior. The head size has a huge impact because the larger the surface area, the more power you can get from your racquet. Many people feel this is analogous to a trampoline where the smaller trampoline is firmer and offers minor bounce and the larger trampoline, with the same force applied will propel you much further. Therefore, the larger the head size, the more strings can yield and bend and the more power you can get from the frame.

The next aspect of a tennis racquet would be the length. Tennis Racquets offer a variety of lengths including:

-Standard length tennis racquet- 27 inches

-Extended length tennis racquet – 27.25 inches

-Extended length tennis racquet – 27.5 inches

-Extended length tennis racquet – 27.5 + inches

The length of a tennis racquet also has a profound effect on its power. While the standard tennis racquet length offers good control and power, the longer racquet will allow more force and a longer reach.

You also need to consider the weight of your racquet. Standard unstrung* tennis racquet weights include:

-Light Weight- < 9 ounces

-Medium Light Weight – 9.1 to 9.6 ounces

-Medium Weight- 9.7 to 10.3 ounces

-Medium Heavy Weight – 10.4 to 10.8 ounces

-Heavy Weight – 10.9 ounces and above

*Strung vs. Unstrung weight is something to consider when reviewing racquet weight.

The weight of your tennis racquet is obviously going to play a critical role in your game play. The heavier the racquet, the more potential momentum you can build up with your swing but if you get a tennis racquet that is too heavy, you may impede your game play rather than augmenting it. Generally, it is accepted that the heavier the racquet frame the more control and stability the tennis racquet will offer but in turn the lighter the frame, the more that same power and maneuverability that can be utilized.

Balance:

The balance of the racquet related to the overall weight distribution. For instance, in some racquets, the weight may be more in the head of the racquet while in others it may rest in the frame. In many cases, lighter head weight racquets are easier to maneuver and position while those heavier in the head can provide additional stability and power. Everything is a trade-off on some level, so you need to assess your own strengths as a player and purchase accordingly.

String Pattern:

The string pattern of a racquet related to the number of horizontal* and vertical* strings a racquet uses.

-Dense String Pattern (Closed) : 18 vertical strings x 20 horizontal strings

-In The Middle (Medium): 16 vertical strings x 19 horizontal strings

-Less Dense String Pattern (Open): 16 vertical strings x 18 horizontal strings

*Vertical strings are also sometimes called mains while horizontal strings are sometimes called crosses.

Generally, a more dense string pattern will yield a firmer more controlled response from your tennis racquet, while a more open string pattern will give you more power. The more give and bend offered by the string pattern, the more power you get.

Getting a good “spin” on the ball is also affected by the string pattern. A more open string pattern offers more opportunity for the strings to catch on the ball and create desirable spin on a return shot.

Finally, its important to understand how all of these factors can come together to create the perfect tennis racquet for you. We’ll talk about just a few main categories of tennis racquets here.

Tennis Racquet Categories:

Power Racquets Characteristics:

-Lighter in weight (8 to 9.5 ounces)

-Larger head size (105 sq inches and above)

-Open (less dense) string pattern

-Wider frame width

This tennis racquet is made for power. This is for the player who does not use a fast or full length swing but instead one who takes more limited and relaxed swings and wants the racquet to yield the power boost they need.

“Tweener” Racquets Characteristics:

-Medium in weight (9.6 to 11 ounces)

-Medium in head size (100 to 105 sq. inches)

-String pattern varies

-Medium frame width

“Tweener” racquets are for people who want something “in between” power and control – or rather some of both characteristics. These racquets are great for tennis players with medium to long swing speeds and who tend to take medium to long cuts at the ball. Many players who are making the transition from junior to full length tennis racquet have success with this category.

Control Racquets Characteristics:

-Heavier in weight (11.1 ounces and above)

-Smaller in head size (90 to 98 sq. inches)

-String pattern varies

-Thinner frame width

The control racquet category is really meant for players who like to take long and fast swings at the ball – they don’t need the power from the racquet since they generate that on their own – they need control to ensure their power places the ball correctly.

By Kadence Buchanan

Thinking of starting to play tennis? Tennis is a great sport that requires mental preparation and physical agility. The first part of being able to play the game properly is understanding the rules, and in this article, we’ll be discussing what are commonly agreed upon as the official rules of tennis. The rules that we will discuss are based on the provided courtesy of the International Tennis Federation.

THE COURT – Tennis should be played on a court that is built to certain specifications. The court should be 78 feet long. For a singles match, the court should be 27 feet in width, and for doubles matches, the court’s width should be 36 feet. The net should be composed of a net with a cord of metal cable supporting it at a height of 3 and a half feet. Service lines should be placed 21 feet from each side of the net, designating the area in which serving should be performed.

THE RACKET – The rackets used in tennis should only have one pair of crisscrossing strings. Vibration dampening devices are allowed on the rackets, but they can only be placed outside of the strings. No devices that incorporate batteries to help your play are allowed.

THE SCORING – Tennis is a unique game in that it has special names given to the various points awarded. When calling out the score, the person serving the ball should always say their score first. A score of zero is called out by saying ‘Love’, and from there, the points go to 15, 30, 40, and game. If both players get a score of 40, the game must become a tie-breaker, and a 40-40 score is announced by saying ‘Deuce’. In a ‘Deuce’ situation, if a player gets a point, they are said to have ‘Advantage’. If a player with an ‘Advantage’ gets another point, the game is over. If a player gets a point while the other has ‘Advantage’, the score is reset to ‘Deuce’. When a game is won, another game is begun until someone gets the best of 7 games. One catch is that they must win by two. If, at the end of 7 games, a player is up 4 to 3, another match must be held as winning by two is necessary. If a player takes the best of 7 games, winning by 2, they are said to have won the match.

Anyone who is considering tennis training will be happy to know that there are plenty of ways to learn how to play the game. Every way from the tennis court to the internet, the video store and even the classroom will prove to be beneficial for those wanting to learn how to play the great game of tennis. Prices will vary depending on the type of training method that is chosen, but can often be quite affordable. This is especially true of those who opt for learning at home through the use of videos or internet lessons. A professional tennis trainer, however, will likely be the most expensive way to learn but will provide a hands-on experience that none of the aforementioned options can.

If you choose to hire a tennis instructor, you will probably want to hire someone who has a lot of experience in either teaching or playing tennis. Or, if possible, find someone who has done both. During this training, you will begin to learn the various swings and in which situation each can be used. In the beginning, tennis may seem intimidating because of the physical activity that is involved, along with the need to have a very fast reaction to every situation. But, after a few lessons, you will be more familiar with the game and how to play it. Patience is the key to learning anything new and tennis is no different.

Even prior to hiring an instructor, some new tennis players may decide to learn some basics of the game before beginning the actual lessons. This can be accomplished by either purchasing books, videos or doing some research online. Either of these methods should provide an introduction to the game, the proper way to grip and swing the tennis racket, etc. With this information, any new tennis player will enter their learning phase with added confidence and will impress their instructor by how much they already know. Not to mention, anything that you can learn beforehand may end up saving you some money on the actual lessons.

With that being said, it’s important to know that there is nothing wrong with taking tennis lessons if you are a true beginner. Even if you have never held a tennis racket or held a tennis ball before, there is nothing to fear. Tennis instructors are there to help you to learn from scratch if that’s what you need. During your lessons, it will always be a good idea to have access to a tennis court and possibly even practice a little in between lessons.

Many tennis instructors work one-on-one with their students, while others prefer to educate to a group of individuals. Those who prefer to learn as much as possible, but without doing so with hands-on training may opt for online lessons. The only drawback is that this method does not provide actual practice, which can be sought separately by the learner. Friends and family can often provide valuable insight in helping one to learning how to play tennis without professional instruction.

TENNIS ELBOW

Inflammation resulting from strain of the common extensor tendon which arises from lateral epicondyle of the humerus is called tennis elbow

This is also known as lateral epicondylitis

People of all ages and races develop tennis elbow disease

Middle aged atheletes and manual workers like carpenters and house painters are at more risk

Children who play computer games for a long time may also develop this

Initially a part of the tendon and the muscle covering have minor tears

Generally first injury heals but chances of injury in this area are more

Repeated injury may cause bleeding in this area and lead to rough granulated and calcium deposits within the surrounding area

Pressure develops due to inflammation and this further irritates the radial nerve one of the major nerve controlling the muscles of arm and hand

CAUSES:

• Tennis players

• Making aggressive twist with a screw driver or other implements

• House painters and carpenters

• Lifting heavy weights with your elbow locked and arm extended

• Those who work a lot with the hands

SYMPTOMS:

1. Recurring pain on the outside of the upper part of the fore arm just below the bend of the elbow

2. Some times pain radiates downwards toward the wrist

3. Pain caused by the bending of the arm

4. Pain caused by lifting the arm

5. Pain caused by grasping event he light object such as a tea cup

6. Swelling is almost never a symptom of tennis elbow

7. Difficulty extending the fore arm fully

8. Some cases of tennis elbow can last for years though the inflammation usually subsides in 6-12 weeks

HOMOEOPATHIC APPROACH:

MAGNESIA PHOSPHORICA:

Neuralgic pain and cramping of the muscles

In sprain and strain sharp, stabbing, shooting pain

Pain generally sharp , cutting, piercing, knife like, stabbing, shooting, stiching, lightening like

Involuntary shaking of hands

Cramps in calves

Writers and players cramp

Weakness in arms and legs

General muscular weakness

ARNICA MONTANA:

Rheumatism of muscular and tendinous tissue ,especially of hip ,back and shoulders

After traumatic injury

Sore ,lame and bruised feeling

Sharp ,shooting, paralytic or sprained pains which quickly change the place

Cannot walk erect on account of bruised pain in the pelvic region

Paralytic pains in all joints during motion

Twitching pain from left shoulder joint to middle finger

PULSATILLA:

Drawing , tearing pains in joints with swelling and redness, especially small joints of hand and feet

The pains shift rapidly from one part to another

Drawing tensive pain with restlessness and chilliness

Numbness around the elbow

Pain appears in the part ,increase to a climax and then disappear suddenly fro the part

SILICA:

Bruised pain in the morning before walking ,better rising

Bruised pain in all muscles of the body

Loss of power in the affected parts

Pain with weakness of joints ,worse upper extremities

Tearing in the joint when sitting

Cramp like pain in the thumb joints

Paralytic weakness of the fore arm

Tremulous hands when using them

Sensation in the tips of fingers as if suppurating

By Gavin Dye

If you are wanting to improve your tennis game then the following tennis tips on how to hit the tennis ball and basic tennis tactics should help you improve your tennis game, and start you winning more games. Remember the main point of tennis is to get the ball over the net and into your opponents court in such a way that your opponent can’t return the ball. Lets start by looking at ways for you to improve your forehand and backhand strokes.

1. Make sure you are holding the tennis racket comfortably

2. On the forehand a good way is to hold it with your palm behind the handle.

3. You can use 2 hands for the backhand but do not overlap your hands. Keep your dominant hand at the bottom with the supporting hand just above the handle.

Keep an eye on the ball as reading the path of the ball will ensure you are in the right place to hit the ball. Move to where the ball will be after it has bounced and stopped rising.

Your Stance, in the beginning sideways on is good enough, if you can’t get your feet sorted out try and ensure that your shoulders are sideways to the ball.

Now you actually have to hit the ball, so try and hit it comfortably to the side of your body and slightly in front of your body and somewhere between the waist and shoulder height. When you hit the ball make sure the strings are pointing to where you want the ball to go in your opponents court.

To improve your serve, the following advice is the basic stuff:

Stand sideways on to the net, and throw the ball into the air so that it hangs nicely in the area where you want to contact the ball, it is no good throwing the ball 3 feet away. Then try and make contact with the ball in the middle of your throwing action at full stretch, slightly in front of you, and above your hitting shoulder.

Now you know the basics of how to hit the ball where are you going to hit the ball, after all you want to win the match and to do that you have to win points, so what are some tactics to make this happen.

Keep the ball in play which you do by getting the ball over the net into your opponents court. If your opponent can’t do this and you can…you will win, but lets hope your opponent is better than that. Make your opponent move in order to hit the ball and try to get them off balance and test their skill to see if they can hit the ball while moving. While doing this remember and keep yourself in a good position on the court and don’t get caught on one side of the court or between the baseline and the net.

Remember to look for your opponents weaknesses and try to play to them, and also try to play to your strengths. If you follow these tips hopefully your tennis game should start to improve.

Tennis elbow (or lateral epicondylitis) is an inflammation of the tendon that attaches to the bony, somewhat knobby, outermost portion of the elbow. The term tennis elbow is something of a misnomer however, as only a small population of tennis players get the condition in comparison to everyone else. Tennis elbow is most commonly found in people between 35 and 55 years of age. Depending on the severity of the damage, tennis elbow can take anywhere from two months to two years to heal fully

What are the symptoms of Tennis Elbow?

If you are right handed, tennis elbow will affect your right arm as it often presents itself f on the dominant arm. Other symptoms people who suffer from tennis elbow often experience are recurring pain on the outside of the upper forearm just below the bend of the elbow; this pain may radiate down the arm toward the wrist. There could also be a loss of the range of motion, which is often due to inflamed muscles, tendons and ligaments. The primary symptoms of tennis elbow are pain and tenderness in the outside of the elbow and sometimes in the muscles on top of the forearm. Tennis elbow pain may go away after a day or so, but only if the activity that triggered the pain is ceased to allow healing. The pain of tennis elbow may become constant if ignored and may even interrupt your sleep. Morning stiffness of the arm and pain on turning door handles or shaking hands can also be signs of tennis elbow.

What causes Tennis Elbow?

Tennis elbow occurs due to the tiny tears in the tendon and muscle and can be brought on by repeated, twisting movements of the hand, wrist or forearm. After the initial injury heals, these areas can tear again leading to hemorrhaging and the formation of rough, granulated tissue and calcium deposits. This can create inflammation, resulting in pressure that can cut off the blood flow and pinch the radial nerve. The Radial is one of the major nerves that control the muscles in the arm and hand. Various activities outside of Tennis can cause tennis elbow to develop, including using scissors or shears; gardening; sports that involve lots of throwing; swimming and even golf, although this often affects the inside of the arm. Jobs that are manual and involve repetitive turning or lifting of the wrist, such as plumbing or bricklaying, may contribute to tennis elbow as well.

Will Painwave X4000 help with Tennis Elbow?

Yes! The Painwave X4000 is a remarkable, non-invasive and drug-free method of relief that can help victims of tennis elbow. Painwave X4000 has no side effects, and the unit is simply moved gently over the surface of the skin in a small circular motion to eliminate pain. With chronic long-term use, the Painwave X4000 can effectively improve circulation, cell activity and lymphatic movements. These improvements are beneficial in the relief of pain and other discomforts. In many cases, this stimulation will greatly reduce or eradicate pain.

By Sean Noughtly Maintaining positive physical activities is essential for the help everyone, including those who are mobility challenged.

By Sean Noughtly

Maintaining positive physical activities is essential for the help everyone, including those who are mobility challenged. There are many activities like wheelchair bowling and wheelchair basketball that are played by individuals worldwide who are not able to walk independently. Wheelchair tennis has become increasingly popular of late and has been played for around 30 years.

Brad Parks is considered by many as one of the leading founders of wheelchair tennis. Parks was injured in a skiing accident in 1976. The accident, which occurred during an acrobatic skiing competition, left Parks paralyzed from the waist down. While in recovery he read an article about an athlete name Jeff Minnenbraker who had been playing wheelchair tennis in a custom built wheelchair.

About 5 months after his accident, Parks tried playing wheelchair tennis on his own. Soon after, he was at his hospital for a check-up and discovered that Jeff Minnenbraker was the new recreational therapist. They met and Minnenbraker gave Parks a few lessons. It quickly became clear though that the standard hospital wheelchair would not suffice for this sport.

During the early months of 1977 Minnenbraker helped Parks to build a custom wheelchair and they began to teach camps and hold exhibition match wheelchair tennis matches across the west cost. By May of 1977 they were hosting their first wheelchair tennis tournament, which Parks won, and by 1980 the National Foundation of Wheelchair Tennis was founded, with Brad Parks as park of the board of directors. The popularity of the sport quickly grew and at the end of 1980, there were over 300 active wheelchair tennis players in the United States.

Today wheelchair tennis is played by thousands of people in countries all over the world. Tournaments have been held at the US Open and at Wimbledon. It is played by people old and young and has had a very positive effect on the lives of many people.

Wheelchair tennis is played on a full size court and follows the standard rules of tennis with a few exceptions. One of the biggest differences is the two bounce rule, which allows the ball to be returned on the first or second bounce. The wheelchair is considered to be part of the body, so any rules that apply to the body also apply to the chair.

When serving the ball, the player is allowed one push and must remain behind the base line. In instances where the player is not able to drop the ball on their own, another individual is allowed to drop the ball.

The player can loose a point if they do not maintain contact with their chair at all times. At least one buttock must always be in contact with the seat. They are also not allowed to use any part of their feet or legs as brakes or to help stabilize them while service the ball, returning the ball, turning, turning, or stopping while the ball is in play.

In instances where the player is unable to use their hands to propel the wheelchair, then they are permitted to use one foot, however no part of their body can touch the ground during the forward motion of the swing or until the racket has hit the ball during a serve.
