What are the main differences? Read on to find out?
 indoor table tennis table

The table tennis tables are original models inside are exactly what most people picture in their head when tennis table is mentioned. They are often built with a steel frame, the wheels make it more portable and goes to bed in the grid for storage. The material is chrome steel and the table of the table tennis table typically is often given as a void-less marine grade plywood. The above is appropriate and smoothed is either painted or silk with greenish-white, making it look like a typical table tennis tank.
The biggest problem with this design is that the chrome parts, the steel frame and also the wood surface will not be the last years outdoor use. In addition, moisture can cause the glue holding the slats of plywood to delaminate slower and the sun can bleach the color used.
 outdoor table tennis table

The outdoor tennis table makes some significant changes, building materials to ensure it is robust enough to use for years out. The top of the table is often made of aluminum or a plastic resin, the ball behave the same, but in an area will not be able to forgive. Metal construction holds the net needs to be replaced is of better quality steel, with plastic and the frame of the table tennis table, except the aluminum so it will not rust in outside. Even the pain or the screen is designed with special coatings, UV resistant to do so for years.

Part of the curriculum of most schools in the United States is physical education. This could basketball, football or tennis and also the game of table tennis. The faculty in charge will teach the basics and then the student can take it from there. Those who have talent may even tryout for the varsity team to bring glory to the school.

Those who have played this game before will surely have an advantage over inexperienced players. But with practice, a newbie can be just as good with the proper training.

Some people think that the game of table tennis is simply hitting the ball with the paddle but there is more to it than that. It involves hand to eye coordination and fast reflexes given that the ball can travel to speeds up to more than 90 miles per hour.

Part of training involves reading up on the sport. This is because the sport has rules that players have to follow. Someone who is knowledgeable will surely cream those who don’t know anything.

There is not enough time to learn everything there is to know about table tennis in PE class given that this only lasts an hour. Those who are serious should get help from someone after school like those offered in the youth center.

No one can play the game without the proper equipment. This means the student should buy a paddle. This is available in sporting goods store or online. In fact, the cheapest out there will only cost $20.

The first thing that will be taught is how to hold the paddle. There are two ways of doing this but normally, Americans use the handshake grip.

Since this is easy to learn, the instructor can now move on to other things such as how to serve, block and drive. Before hitting a few balls, an important part of training is doing some drills. This is because the game is all about technique and being consistent means fewer mistakes will happen.

When the instructor sees that the person is ready, this is the time that a mock game will be done. This could be someone else who is learning the sport or someone experienced. If no one is available, the instructor will be the one to do it.

Training with someone knowledgeable usually takes an hour and a half to two hours daily. Those who want to keep in shape can even practice at home on weekends by using an ordinary table and pushing this toward the wall. The other alternative will be to play with someone who also knows how to play the game.

As part of the training, the player should never forget to stretch, warm up and cool down. This will get the muscles ready for practice and during competition.

In a month or two, there might be a competition in school. This is where the student will see if all the training paid off.

The player should not feel bad for losing in the first match. The individual should also not gloat over the victory because there are still other players out there who are much better.

Whatever happens, this should simply be taken as a lesson so that errors that were committed can be corrected to achieve a better performance in the next match.

Table tennis is a very interesting sport. This game is a classical example where there must be hand to eye coordination is key in beating an opponent.

The way that a player holds the paddle is the best way to learn the various techniques. Take for example the shake handgrip where the person will literally take hold of it like shaking a person’s hand.

This is very easy to learn and the way it is handled will allow the player to serve, block, push and smash whenever it is needed. In fact, beginners do not only use this technique because experienced athletes still apply it during practice and in competition.

Another way of holding the paddle is called the pen grip. The individual will hold the handle as though this is like a pen. People will surely notice that a lot of Asians use this especially the Chinese who were the ones who invented it.

What is the difference between the two aside from how the paddle is held? Those who decide to use the handshake will keep the edge of the paddle always on the side. Players who use the pen grip will point this toward the ground.

These are two most popular ways of holding the paddle. Since the sport is not only about using the arms, proper technique is also developed with fancy footwork. This is achieved based on the stance one takes either being in the offense or defense.

It takes time to master one of the other. Perhaps when the individual’s skills have improved, this will be a good time to learn the second one then see which one is better when playing in a game.

Since the ball may come in any direction, the player should crouch a little keeping the hands close to the shoulders. This should be relaxed at all times since tension will build up later on as the game goes on further.

The person also does not have to run from one end of the table to the other unlike tennis but faster movement can be done with knees bent and the legs a few feet apart.

It will take some time to achieve proper timing. The player will realize later on that a miss will happen when the reaction is either too fast or slow.

While on the offense, the speed drive works best. The player starts the momentum by trading a few volleys and when the timing is right, a smash will be sent to the other side thus adding one more point on the scoreboard.

Of course, the other player can do the same thing so it is best to be prepared for it that is known as the counter drive. The player will just have to take the initiative when to smash it again to the other side but be prepared just in case the opponent is able to anticipate this at the same time.

Some matches will even have both players standing a few feet away from the table. This is called a lob given that both sides are trading some powerful shots. There is a way to end this and it goes back to the smash.

It will be a good idea to also learn how to block so that the energy given by the other player is returned in kind by simply putting the paddle up.

Playing the game of table tennis can be compared to riding a bike. Anyone can watch how others do it and more or less understand how the game is played. But for those who want to have better skills, this is the time that table tennis coaching is necessary.

The person can check out the youth center or ask someone in school how to play the game. There is a lot to learn from holding the grip to the various poses that are done during offense and defense.

If the school does not have a team, maybe those who are members of a sports club can learn there. A small group of people can form a team that will later compete in other tournaments.

Most sports facilities will have the table and the net. The only thing that player needs to have is a paddle. The one in charge of training the people will usually start with drills. This will increases the chances of making contact with the ball using either the forehand or the backhand.

The beginner will not be rushed in learning how to play the game. There are those who need more time to practice before going any further while those who learn fast may move on to other techniques.

From drills, the player will finally get to spar with someone else. The opponent could also be a beginner or someone with more experience. The coach will be there the entire time to keep score and also point out errors that should be avoided.

When the coach feels that the player is ready, this is the time that the person will get to compete in a tournament. A lot of people get nervous the first time, which is perfectly normal. The event is like a graduation where the a beginner becomes a rookie.

The coach who is sitting in the sidelines will be giving advice during the course of the match. The player should listen carefully and follow the instructions because the instructor may have seen a weak point in the opponent that should be taken advantage of.

In the end, the outcome of the match will really depend on the player. The rookie may win because of pure luck or exceptional skill. This could also go the other way but the experience is worth remembering in order to become better in the next tournament.

The lessons given by the coach even before the competition are not enough to make the person a better player. This means there is still so much to learn and the individual should be open to the other things that can be taught.

Some coaches will show video clips of other players and even encourage the rookie to watch actual games if there any in town or on television. These individuals did not become one of the best in the country or the world overnight so those who dream of making it should practice and learn just as hard as these people did.

There is more to table tennis than just hitting the ball with the paddle. There is hand to eye coordination, speed and technique. The top ranked in the world need to stay in shape while a beginner needs to learn everything there is to know that can only be achieved with someone acting as a coach.

By Mario Churchill

Most sports will require some kind of skill or some form of characteristics that will make playing a little bit easier. Height for example is an advantage when it comes to basketball as players who are tall can easily get to the baskets. Bowling, on the other hand, requires strength of the arm as well as steadiness because the bowling ball can be really heavy. Chess needs a mind that thinks strategy and end game while those who are involved with gymnastics will need flexibility and coordination. Although all these can actually be learned through constant practice, there are still people who seem to play these sports so naturally.

Table tennis, however is one of those sports that seem to require no prerequisite conditions. Everything can actually be learned through practice, including the speed of the reflexes.

The start of the game

Similar to the beginnings of other sports, Table Tennis also began as a social activity. It is actually quite similar to tennis and to badminton except that instead of a lawn or a court with a net in the middle, table tennis has well… a table. In fact, Fred Perry, a World Champion in the sport went on to became a champion in Tennis. That’s how related these games are.

During the second half of the 19th century, the game gained popularity in England and even had various names such as Gossima and Whiff-Whaff. But of course, the name Table Tennis caught on. The name Ping Pong also became really popular.

Purportedly, the word ping pong came from the sound of the ball as it strikes the table and the rackets. But unlike other sports games, which are played primarily outdoors, table tennis became really popular as an leisure activity for the family. In fact, in the early 19th century, it is often played as an after-dinner activity during parties.

Between the periods 1905 to 1910, the craze for the ping pong spread through Central Europe and eventually to Asian countries like Japan, China and Korea.

After a period of waning interests, table tennis was once again revived in England, particularly in Wales by the early 1920s. This time, the name table tennis was officially used while ping pong became a trademark. At this time, national associations of players of table tennis were formed and rules about the game were standardized, not only in the country but in Europe and in the Far East as well.

Over the next years up until now, table tennis has become a worldwide sensation. By a recent accounting, the sports has about 30 million competitive players all over the world. Since leisure players are not part of that figure, one can just imagine the extent of the sport’s success.

There are actually few changes in the rules of the game since its inception. It however became, faster and more demanding than before, with players becoming more skillful with their games and faster with their reflexes. Among the changes that occur through the years are: the height of the net in the middle of the table, some rules in serving and tie-breaking matches.

These changes are only made in the biennial meeting of the International Table Tennis Federation to ensure that rules are standardized all over the world. In addition, changes are not implemented until a vote of majority is reached.

You have been playing tennis on and off over the years and have finally decided to get more serious about the game. You figure you can kill two birds with one stone by getting your exercise while doing something you like. Now, you set off to get yourself ready to play.

As always, you want to look your best, after all, you have always been a great dresser. The decision now is ‘what should I wear when playing tennis?’ Do I need special outfits similar to what pros like the Williams sisters wear or can I just wear casual clothing? Bottom line is that the decision is yours to make.

You can purchase a complete outfit made by any major manufacturer of sporting goods. These include Nike, Adidas, Prince, Wilson, Head, Babolat, Balle de Match, and there still many more out there selling good products.

If you do not want to invest in the special clothes, think comfortable. Your outfit should be loose and flowing as you will be running back and forth, jumping up and down and twisting in every direction as you try to hit the ball. Maybe you will want to just wear the clothes you already have in your closet or to purchase ones-either works as long as you can move freely around the court.

If you join a group or a club and play as a team together, you may need to purchase a team uniform.

Your group will select an outfit that may include a top, shorts, socks and jacket or a special short dress with socks and a jacket-monograms are also available and you can even add the team’s name to the back of the outfit.

If you have joined a tennis club, you may want to stop by periodically to see what other people are wearing. I am not saying that you should try to ‘keep up with the Jones’ here, but there may be an ‘unspoken’ dress code for players. You should be able to figure that out without embarrassing yourself by showing up inappropriately dressed.

Take time to go out and shop around for your outfit. If you do not have a lot of spare time or you hate to think about spending time at the mall on your day off, look on the internet. Just type in ‘tennis clothing’ and you will be amazed at the number of different web sites that will be listed.

Go through a few of these sites to get an idea of what you want-this is probably the quickest and easiest way to see literally hundreds of different options in just a few minutes. You can even order your outfit without every leaving your home-it can even be delivered directly to your door for you to wear.

Find the outfit you like and that you are comfortable in. Play tennis with your friends, make new acquaintances, schmooze with potential clients, and just enjoy yourself. You are out with people and getting exercise and you look and feel great.

Most people begin to learn how to play tennis by watching tennis matches on television. They will learn about the scoring system used in the tennis matches and learn how to differentiate between one tennis racquet brand and another. Over time, they will also know the different playing styles of every tennis player on the circuit and some they will be able to identify on sight with their full name. They might concentrate very intently on each ball service because each player seems to have a different serving style.

It is common to see children playing alone outside with a racquet and a ball. They are learning to play tennis by practicing their serve on a concrete wall. They might realize that tennis requires them to run more quickly than they initially thought, and by the end of the day they are ready to go to bed early because they are extremely tired. The next day that they practice tennis in this manner, they might be more willing to pace themselves in their tennis training.

The local library has many sources of information that people can use to gain knowledge about the game of tennis. There are sports magazines and internet sites with plenty of information to read, hear and visualize, as well as an unlimited number of videos that people can rent to view when they have some free time during the day. All of these news sources will be verified and children find this information resource invaluable when they join a tennis team at school.

A tennis player can learn all about the world of tennis by studying how to become a professional in the sport and by following the career trail of players who have played professionally for many years. They might even learn where the tennis courts are in their hometown so they can practice volleying the ball over an actual net.

Many neighborhood apartment complexes install tennis courts to lure in the right crowd. Any tenant that has the energy to play tennis will generally have a proactive lifestyle. Neighbors can spend many hours on the tennis court getting exercise just to keep fit. While they are busying themselves by learning tennis, they will generally stay out of trouble and spread good cheer among other residents who live there.

Some parents might be willing to sign a child up for a lessons at a local tennis center. Learning the game from someone that has perfected their craft is generally the best way to learn it. The tennis centers will have regulation courts where people can learn to serve the tennis ball with precision and returning the ball several times after that will be what their formal training in tennis will perfect.

People get inspired to learn tennis by buying tennis outfits and equipment. The salesmen at a sports equipment outlet will be a good guide to make sure they have everything they need. When learning to play tennis, only the basic equipment needs to be purchased. Players can move on to more expensive styles in racquets after their tennis training has been completed.

If you watch the sports channels on TV, such as ESPN, a lot, you’re likely to catch a game of table tennis every so often. Table tennis, often called ping pong, is played on a wooden table, with a plastic ball and paddles covered in rubber and a net dividing the playing surface. It is sometimes called the miniature version of tennis since the rules are so similar.

Table tennis is a fun and exciting sport and it is easy to learn. A big advantage to taking up table tennis is that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on expensive equipment. The most expensive part is obviously the table. You can find inexpensive ping pong sets, consisting of the net, 2 paddles and a number of balls, in almost any department store in the toy or sporting goods section.

The game of table tennis was invented in England in the 1880′s by rich Victorians looking for an activity to be played indoors. When the game was first played, books served as a net, a knot of string or a champagne cork was used as a ball and cigarette box lids were employed as paddles. Apparently people enjoyed this newly invented game with its make-shift equipment, since it continued to grow in popularity.

Improvements were made to the equipment during the early 1900′s. The balls were being made from celluloid and the paddles consisted of a piece of rubber glued to a wooden handle. The word ping pong originated because of the distinctive sound the ball made when hit with the rubber paddle. And Parker Brothers opted to go with the ping pong name when they introduced the game to the United States.

With the commercial availability of the equipment, the game continued to grow in popularity and the first tournament was held in 1902. In 1921 the Table Tennis Association was founded in England and less than 10 years later, the first World Championships also took place there.

Over time the sport spread to other parts of the world. In the Far Eastern countries, such as China, it is called ping pong, while in other countries similar terms in the native language are used.

The 1950′s rolled around and other innovations were made. As an example, a sponge layer was added to the paddles over the rubber, making the paddles lighter and easier for the players to use. And finally, after being around for more than a century, table tennis was included as an Olympic Sport in 1988.

In the latter part of 2000, the international body governing the rules of table tennis introduced more changes. They decided to increase the size of the plastic ball used in tournaments from 38mm to 40mm. This was an attempt to slow the game down a little. They also made changes to the way the game was scored, now using a 11 point system as opposed to the traditional 21 points, which makes each set fast and exciting for the players and spectators.

Enjoy your experiences with table tennis, and remember to keep your eye on the ball.

Anyone who is considering tennis training will be happy to know that there are plenty of ways to learn how to play the game. Every way from the tennis court to the internet, the video store and even the classroom will prove to be beneficial for those wanting to learn how to play the great game of tennis. Prices will vary depending on the type of training method that is chosen, but can often be quite affordable. This is especially true of those who opt for learning at home through the use of videos or internet lessons. A professional tennis trainer, however, will likely be the most expensive way to learn but will provide a hands-on experience that none of the aforementioned options can.

If you choose to hire a tennis instructor, you will probably want to hire someone who has a lot of experience in either teaching or playing tennis. Or, if possible, find someone who has done both. During this training, you will begin to learn the various swings and in which situation each can be used. In the beginning, tennis may seem intimidating because of the physical activity that is involved, along with the need to have a very fast reaction to every situation. But, after a few lessons, you will be more familiar with the game and how to play it. Patience is the key to learning anything new and tennis is no different.

Even prior to hiring an instructor, some new tennis players may decide to learn some basics of the game before beginning the actual lessons. This can be accomplished by either purchasing books, videos or doing some research online. Either of these methods should provide an introduction to the game, the proper way to grip and swing the tennis racket, etc. With this information, any new tennis player will enter their learning phase with added confidence and will impress their instructor by how much they already know. Not to mention, anything that you can learn beforehand may end up saving you some money on the actual lessons.

With that being said, it’s important to know that there is nothing wrong with taking tennis lessons if you are a true beginner. Even if you have never held a tennis racket or held a tennis ball before, there is nothing to fear. Tennis instructors are there to help you to learn from scratch if that’s what you need. During your lessons, it will always be a good idea to have access to a tennis court and possibly even practice a little in between lessons.

Many tennis instructors work one-on-one with their students, while others prefer to educate to a group of individuals. Those who prefer to learn as much as possible, but without doing so with hands-on training may opt for online lessons. The only drawback is that this method does not provide actual practice, which can be sought separately by the learner. Friends and family can often provide valuable insight in helping one to learning how to play tennis without professional instruction.
