Beer pong game (or Beirut) is a popular drinking game that is still gaining fame in the United States. You can find it anywhere from college fraternity houses to tailgate parties. The original game was thought to be played at Dartmouth college in the 1950′s and much more closely resembled the actual game of ping pong.

Beer pong, as a title, is normally saved for the game that is still played with paddles, however, beirut was born in the 1980′s as the title for the paddle free game. While the debate may rage between colleges who originated the specific nomenclature, the rules for each game are fairly similar.

Getting ready to play is simple. There are two teams, usually with two players each, both starting at the end of a long table. Originally, this table was a ping pong table, but the paddle-less version does not require a ping pong table. You then set up 6, 10, or 15 cups on both ends of the table. Next, fill these cups, partially, with different beverages.

Beer pong, obvious by the name, uses an alcoholic beverage such as beer. Many people prefer light beers as they are consumed in large quantities and fairly quickly. Surprisingly, Dartmouth College has banned beer pong. This has forced some people to play it will root beer or other non-alcoholic drinks.

Rules can vary from house to house because it is not an official game. These variations include the number of cups used, types of shots allowed and the strategies employed. Some places require you to bounce the balls into the cup, while others do not.

For most rule sets when a cup is hit, the opposing team must drink the contents and then rearrange or re-rack the cups. The game ends when one team forces the other team to drink all of their cups. However, some house rules include a final showdown called redemption or death cup where the losing team tries to stay in the game with a successful double hit on one cup.

It doesn’t matter what rules or names are used, beer pong is still gaining popularity across the United States. Keep in mind that any game with alcohol involved should have some safety precautions taken. However, if the players are careful, beer pong can be a great way to take a party to the next level. Bragging rights of being beer pong champion can make a big man on campus out of anyone.

The sport of table tennis or ping pong, is a fun indoor sport for 2 or 4 people. On a casual level, families might have a ping pong table in their family rec room or basement, much like a pool or foosball table; but few know how to play table tennis or ping pong to achieve the best results. Below, we’ve outlined the basic grips (ways to hold the table tennis paddle) of table tennis, to help you maximize your performance, both recreationally and professionally.

The way that you hold your tennis table paddle can dramatically alter your performance based on what type of game you are seeking to play (whether professional or recreational), what strokes you will be predominantly using, and the like. There are three basic ways to hold or grip your table tennis or ping pong paddle: the shakehands, penhold, and seemiller grips. The shakehands grip is the most commonly used, both in family rec rooms and professional matches, as it allows for strong mobility in both forehand and backhand strokes. The penhold grip is a more antiquated grip for table tennis players, used more often by professional players seeking to surprise their opponent with a different grip. This grip affords the table tennis player a much stronger forehand predominant stroke, and disables the ease of a backhand because of grip position. Lastly, the seemiller grip was developed by 5 time US Table Tennis champion, Dan Seemiller. This grip is hardly ever used as it is considered disruptive to form, as it employs only one side of the paddle for both forehand and backhand strokes. It is a slight variation from the shakehands grip, allowing for strong control of both forehand and backhand strokes.

How to use the Shakehands Grip:

· Grip the paddle’s handle with all fingers, palm facing you.

· Extend index finger straight out along the base of the rubber part of the paddle (the actual paddle part) on one side of the paddle.

· Close thumb around the other side of the paddle (from your index finger), also along the base. Your thumb should meet the three remaining fingers wrapped around the handle of the paddle.

· Make sure your extended arm and paddle edge form a straight line. It should look like you are shaking hands at a 45 degree angle.

How to use the Penhold Grip:

· Wrap your thumb and index finger around the base of the rubber paddle (where the handle meets the paddle part).
· Your middle, ring, and pinky fingers should be folded behind the paddle and out of the way.
· The tips of your index finger and thumb should be touching.
· The grip should look as if you were holding a pen.

How to use the Seemiller Grip:

· Grip the paddle’s handle with all fingers, palm facing you.

· Extend index finger straight out along the base of the rubber part of the paddle (the actual paddle part) on one side of the paddle.

· Slightly wrap or hook your index finger around the edge of the paddle.

· Close thumb around the other side of the paddle (from your index finger), also along the base. Your thumb should meet the three remaining fingers wrapped around the handle of the paddle.

· Make sure thumb points forward towards the game.

· Make sure your extended arm and paddle edge form a straight line. It should look like you are shaking hands at a 45 degree angle.

Things to keep in mind:

· Keep your grip loose.

· Each grip preference requires a different type of paddle. Play around with the different grips and see what feels most comfortable for you, before you opt for a particular paddle.

· Choose to play a game or opponent that matches the type of grip and stroke that you are best at. For example: use a shakehands grip for a general game that will require forehand and backhand. Use a Seemiller grip for a professional game that requires a lot of blocking.

· If your grip feels uncomfortable, make sure your form is correct.

· Best thing to do if you have any questions or problems, is to ask a certified table tennis coach or locate a supplier.

As a budding ping pong player, you know that this game will test your reflexes, and also your mind. Just like playing chess, ping pong is a game that also requires your mind to think two steps ahead in order for you to have everything laid out and avoid confusion on what swing in your arsenal to use and also where to place the ball in your next shot.

So, here are some different tips and tricks to keep your feet moving and your brain thinking whenever you play ping pong.

The first tip is that you shouldn’t stick to one type of serve. Be sure to mix a variety of serves with different length and spins. Practice the different kinds of services available in table tennis and apply them in the game at random. This will confuse your opponents and let them keep on thinking about what kind of serve you will give them every time you serve the ball. You can also try sticking to one kind of serve for three services and on the fourth serve, change it. This will make your opponents to anticipate that you will use your old serve and is a good way to catch them off guard and they’ll make a mistake.

Try developing the third ball attack strategy. In this strategy, you will be the one who will serve, after they returned the ball, attack it. This is a great strategy to be on the aggressive side and not on the defensive.

The third tip is to attack the ball whenever you can. Aggressive players tend to win the point, set and match on almost every game. This is why you should practice your aggressive tactics more and you will be able to accurately place the ball on the table where you will always keep your opponent on the defensive position.

If you are on the receiving end, you will want to keep your eyes on your opponent’s paddle. When your opponent is starting to serve, try to get a glimpse on how high the ball is tossed and then get your eyes back on the paddle. Keeping your eye on the ball the whole time will just baffle you with his or her deception tactics. Read paddle strokes and you will be able to know what kind of spin your opponent uses on his or her serves. And, you should remember that the higher the ball is tossed, the more chance that the ball will spin more.

These are some of the things that you have to remember whenever you are playing ping pong. By following these tips, you can be sure that you will always be on the attack and keep your opponent on the defensive position. Out play your opponent by out thinking them.

Do you enjoy playing ping pong with your friends? Do you want to be the champ ping pong player among your friends and family? If you do, then these tips will be able to help you on your way on becoming an unbeatable table tennis player even if it’s only amongst your friends and family.

The first important tip in order to become unbeatable in the game of ping pong is by mastering the different kinds of serves available. You have to consider that merely hitting the ball and getting it to bound from your side of the table to your opponent’s side of the table won’t cut it. The best serve are serves that will make the ball spin. By putting spins on the ball, you will be able to make it difficult for your opponent to return the ball forcing them to return an easy ball for you to finish it off effectively with a big drive. You also need to know what kind of spin that you should put on the ball when serving.

If you aren’t playing, try observing how your opponents play. Try figuring out their weakness and strengths. By doing this, you will be able to know what strategy you need to use when it’s your turn to play against them. It is important that you should try knowing what kinds of serves that your opponent delivers in order for you to know how to effectively return the ball.

Being defensive all the time means losing. Try being aggressive all the time by attacking. This will keep your opponent on their toes and will make it difficult for them to beat you. Even if you are winning, you should keep on being aggressive. Being defensive and just hoping that your opponent will make a mistake will quickly turn the table and you could end up on the losing end at a blink of an eye.

In order to become unpredictable, try serving the ball with different spins and lengths. This will confuse your opponents and they won’t know what kind of ball you will serve next.

When returning the serve, never expect to return the ball perfectly. As much as possible, learn how to make the playing field even as you return the serve. Never give your opponent the advantage. Always remember that when you return the serve, you need to keep the ball in play in order for you to prepare your strategy.

These are the things that you have to remember in order to become unbeatable in ping pong. By following these tips, you will see that you will be very hard to defeat.
